Prague tourist information reinforces power of the Powder Tower

The Powder Tower was built in 1475 as one of the original 13 fortification gates of the city. The tower received its current name in the 17th century, because it was used as a gunpowder storage facility. According to Prague tourist information the Tower was severely damaged in the Prussian invasion of 1737.

The Powder Tower was reconstructed, gothic style, and is the oldest gothic structure in Prague. It is no longer a fortification or famous gate to the city; however it stands as a prominent part of the cityscape.

The Tower can be seen and entered from the Charles Bridge. There is an exhibition at the Powder Tower regarding its history. Prague tourist information indicates that views of Prague are beautiful from the tower.
